Artistic Director Misa Iwama

Misa Iwama is a singer, teacher, conductor, arranger, and pianist. She has flourished working in repertoire ranging from classical, musical theater, and folk to liturgical and world music. She has performed on opera and concert stages throughout the United States, and appeared on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning revival of The King & I.

Among Ms. Iwama's orchestral engagements are the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center in New York City, the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, the Miami Symphony Orchestra, and the Miami Chamber Symphony.

Misa Iwama is an avid performer of contemporary music. She appeared at Tanglewood’s Seiji Ozawa Hall as part of its Festival of Contemporary Music. She also performed to rave reviews in Boston with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. She is featured in recordings for the Chandos and Albany Records labels, and her Lincoln Center solo debut came as the mezzo soprano soloist in Copland’s In the Beginning with the National Chorale. She has also sung on multiple film soundtracks.

American opera companies with which she has performed include Opera Carolina, Central City Opera, and Glimmerglass Opera. She also toured nationwide with the New York City Opera National Company. Ms. Iwama has appeared with Florida Grand Opera, Piedmont Opera, Bronx Opera, and the Opera Festival of New Jersey.

She holds the positions of the Director of Music Ministry at Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Summit, NJ, Artistic Director of the Afternoon Music concert series, and the Assistant Music Director of Central Synagogue in New York City.
